Programming

We have been offering custom programming services since the days of DOS (actually, even earlier:  CP/M).  We can create brand new applications, or wring a few more miles out of your old code.  Our clients are typically small businesses, so we're well versed at maximizing value and minimizing costs.  (That's why we're including Linux in the toolbag now.)

Development technologies we've used over the years (most of which are still in use somewhere):  Visual Basic/Access, Delphi, SQL, Interbase, Crystal Reports, DataFlex, Clarion, Paradox, xBASE, DataPerfect, Pascal, BASIC, RPG II, Assembler, COBOL. We have been involved with all sorts of applications:  Specialized accounting; Property Management;  Prosecutor case management;  Customer Response systems; Telephone company billing/job costing; Client statistics and billing systems for psychiatric programs; Interface programs (PC to specialty lab equipment); Bio-mass plant fuel inventory.

Our clients have come from all over Northern California--and beyond.  We were "telecomputing" and providing remote services long before it became fashionable.

Representative Projects

  • Constituency Contact & Response & Clerks Index, Munimetrix Systems Corp. (Reno, NV)

Lead and/or maintenance developer for these applications, which are distributed nationwide to municipal governments.  Environment:  Visual Basic, Access, Crystal Reports, InstallShield.

Designer/developer of conversion programs for new versions (e.g., importing BTrieve files and mainframe data to Access).   Environment: Visual Basic, Access.

  • School Records Database, Insurance School of the Central Valley (Modesto, CA).

Student/class attendance system to help automate record-keeping for a private school. Included a feature to automate the printing of graduation certificates, and fill in PDF forms for State reporting.  Environment: Delphi, Access.

  • Heart Valve Program, Medic Alert Foundation (Turlock, CA).

This patient registry of Bjork-Shiley Convexo/Concave (C/C) heart valve patients maintains a database of over 30,000 patients.  Stabilized a chaotic code base in 1994-95, after replacing an Arthur Anderson consultant.  Added many new features; planned and executed data mining studies; prepared written reports for communication with outside agencies (including the FDA).  Documented the system, and later worked with internal team converting it to Oracle.

This code base was also used to begin the independent Canadian Shiley Patient Notification and Registration System in Toronto, Canada.  Customized and supported this installation.

  • Specification sheet parser, Nortel Networks (Pleasanton, CA).

Developed a program for internal use which mined selected data from large text files and exported it in a form which could be used by other applications for trend analysis.  Environment: Delphi.

  • Motor Log, Industrial Electric Corporation (Modesto, CA).

Developed a specialty parts database used in the auditing of manufacturing facilities.  Interfaced with a digital camera to store pictures of electric motors along with their specifications and maintenance schedules.  Environment: Visual Basic, Access.

  • SPSS script generator, QCR Associates (Modesto, CA).

A program to take in numerous parameters and generate volumes of script suitable for input into the SPSS statistical analysis program.  Client was an organization which surveyed doctors' offices for usage of professional medicine samples.  Environment: Delphi.

  • Mailing List Manager, American Readers Service (Modesto, CA).

Application to merge lists of do-not-call numbers with prospect lists for a subscription selling service.  Wizard-based interface automated the painstaking process of file conversions, merging, eliminating duplicates, and archiving.  Environment: Delphi, Paradox.
